Theatres in Telugu states will reportedly shut down from March 2018 as a way of protesting against the high charges levied by digital service providers (DSP). According to a Deccan Chronicle report, the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce have been contemplating such a move for a while now.

Muthyala Ramdoss, General Secretary of TFCC, highlights that distributors are paying the charges for digital projection (about Rs 20,000 per week) of the film, which in actuality should be borne either by the exhibitor or DSPs because the latter is installing the equipment in the premises of the former. “So how are the distributors concerned? All the people — the producer council, the distributor council, exhibitor council and studio council — are important to us,” he tells DC.
This protest is likely to stall the release of big films such as Rangasthalam, starring Ram Charan, Mahesh Babu’s Bharath Ane Nenu and Allu Arjun’s Naa Peru Surya.
