Mostly, at least.

We love Tom Hardy. We can’t wait for the Venom movie. But the trailer that just went out? That’s another story. It’s a busy summer for comic book fans with Avengers: Infinity War round the corner this weekend and the sequel to Deadpool is lined up for its release in May. If you’ve been online today, then you’ve for sure seen all the hating on that the trailer is getting. For starters, fans are distressed that the writing is by writers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Gangster Squad. Second: Hardy talking to himself and the whole “Us” business? Yeah, no. Works in the comic book but if the trailer is anything to go by, Hardy better have done a lot more than what we just saw.

Also, we are really not sure Hardy is staying consistent with his accent. Truth be told, he made a much better Bane.

Venom chronicles the life of Eddie Brock who was infested by an unknown element to turn him completely mischievous and dark. The trailer focuses on how Hardy’s character turns into Venom, and this time Marvel fans are satisfied to see the fully transformed Venom in action by the final minutes of the trailer, replete with the tongue twisting.

“I’m feeling really sick. I’m hearing a voice,” a troubled Brock remarks early on. Really? A freelance photographer Brock sees Spiderman as his arch nemesis. In Amazing Spider-Man 2, there was a mention of the character of Eddie Brock.

Venom will hit the cinemas on October 5 and is directed by Zombieland helmer Ruben Fleischer. Apart from Hardy, the film also stars Riz Ahamed, Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate.
