Weeks back, Baby from Andhra Pradesh became famous for her rendition of AR Rahman’s popular ‘O Cheliya’. The video went viral on social media. Rahman shared it. Music director Koteswara Rao brought her on the sets of his show. And recently, actor Chiranjeevi met Baby at his home.
Baby is an untrained singer, a native of Vadisaleru village in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.
Impressed by her singing, Telugu music director Koteswara Rao contacted her and brought her on the sets of his show, Bol Baby Bol. Koti, as he is called, was at Chiranjeevi’s home when the actor and his wife invited Baby. Reports say that the composer has made her an offer to sing in one of his films. And Telugu musician RP Patanaik has also congratulated her.
Following this, BBC Telugu did a live Facebook video with her, where she tells more about herself and sings for us.

Baby is one among many whose cover versions of popular numbers have gone viral. Earlier this year, Shankar Mahadevan shared the video of Rakesh Unni, a daily wage labourer, singing the song ‘Unnai Kaanadhu Naan’ from Dasaavatharam.
The singer was impressed by Rakesh Unni’s rendition, and asked people to help him find out who Rakesh was. His tweet read – ‘Would like to work with him.’
This is called fruit of labour!
When we hear this, it just makes me feel so so proud of our country that produces so much talent and is so rich in culture. Who is this guy???
How can I trace him?
Need help & would like to work with him. pic.twitter.com/SWqGQkmChb
