Lyca Productions has announced the title of Suriya’s 37th film Kaappaan. This much awaited title was announced ten minutes after midnight, on New Year. The film is directed by KV Anand, and its first look poster was also released today.

In the first Kaappaan poster, Suriya is seen in a suit, holding a gun and leading what seems like an investigation team. In the second poster, Suriya is seen with Mohanlal and Arya. Sources say that Suriya plays the role of a bodyguard in the film, while Mohanlal is the Prime Minister. The film is said to be a political thriller.

On December 25, KV Anand had tweeted asking fans to decide the title of the film. He gave three options – Meetpaan, Kaappaan, Uirka. He also replied to a fan’s tweet saying Kaanjagan was a fourth option. Uirka won the poll with a maximum votes, but the makers have decided on Kaappaan.

The film is said to be a mega-budget entertainer. It also stars Arya, Sayyeshaa Saigal, Boman Irani, and Samuthirakani in pivotal roles. Harris Jayaraj is the composer, Abhinandan Ramanujam is the cinematographer, and editing is by Anthony.

Chirag Jani plays Suriya’s friend in the film. His role was reportedly first offered to Allu Sirish, who had to turn down the offer because the schedule clashed with his other film ABCD.

Allu Sirish had said, “They could not be rescheduled because of the logistics involved. Keeping in mind the best interest of both the films, I volunteered to step down from the role. Director KV Anand sir too has understood the issue and accepted my decision.”

Meanwhile, Suriya is working on the political thriller NGK or Nadha Gopalan Kumaran. It is directed by Selvaraghavan, and produced by SR Prabhu under Dream Warrior Pictures. Music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The film also stars Sai Pallavi and Rakul Preet Singh as leads. Bala Singh, Mansoor Ali Khan, Murali Sharma, Sampath Raj, Sarath Kumar and Jagapathi Babu have important roles.
