Theatre Strike Called Off; Cinemas To Reopen Tomorrow

Theatre Strike Off

Four days after theatre owners called a strike to protest the TN government’s entertainment tax and GST, theatre owners and distributors have called off the strike.

The decision comes after a two-hour meeting with ministers. Good news for movie goers, as all the shows will run in theatres from tomorrow. “From tomorrow, only GST will be added to the ticket price. 30% local body tax has been temporarily stalled until the committee, which has been set by the government, takes a decision on it,” Saravana Rajan – a member of the distributors’ association, told Silverscreen.

While theatres are set to open tomorrow, last week’s releases are gearing up for a re-release. Confirming the news, Dhananjeyan, producer of Ivan Thandhiran told Silverscreen, “As theatres are opening tomorrow, we are glad that our film is going to hit the screens again.”
