Deepika Padukone has reportedly been given special security by the Mumbai Police after the Karni Sena threatened her on Thursday for associating herself with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati. Mahipal Makrana, the president of the fringe group, issued a threat to the Bollywood actress saying, “Rajputs do not raise hand on women, but even Lakshman had cut off Surpanakha’s nose.” These comments came a day after the group had vandalised a movie theatre in Kota that screened the film’s trailer.

“We are providing her adequate security after the threat. The police will provide security at her residence as well as office in Mumbai,” senior Mumbai police officer Deven Bharti told PTI.

Meanwhile, protesters ready themselves at the Chittorgarh Fort. Many groups have gathered at the fort, forcing a bandh today.

Kamal Haasan Says He Will Not Take His Comments On Religion Back

A petition was filed in the Madras High Court on Thursday, asking the court to direct the Chennai Police Commissioner to file a case against Kamal Haasan for his comments on “Hindu terrorism”. Filed by social activist G Devarajan, the petition wants the police to investigate Haasan’s views on Hindus which was published by Tamil magazine Ananda Vikatan. Devarajan reportedly alleges that the actor is trying to instigate violence with his comments.

While Haasan clarifies how his statements were incorrectly translated, he wrote in Ananda Vikatan that he will not take his comments back. “I was talking about various forms of extremism but people misunderstood as terrorism.  It’s not a major crime to file cases against me. People are telling me not to connect violence and religion. But greed and religion are the main reasons for violence across the globe. No religion in this world can argue on that front. People should not take law into their hands. Those powers have been given to the judiciary,” he wrote.
