Singer SP Balasubrahmanyam has recorded the intro song for Rajinikanth in director AR Murugadoss’ Darbar, composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
SPB has been integral to many Rajinikanth hits. He sang the intro song ‘Oruvan Oruvan Mudhalali’ for Muthu, ‘Athanda Ithanda’ for Arunachalam, ‘Naan Autokaaran’ for Baasha, and ‘Kadavul Padachan’ for Pokkiri Raja. Recent Rajinikanth-starrers Kabali and Kaala didn’t feature an SPB song. However, he sang a few lines in the Petta intro song earlier this year, but fans felt that he was not given his due. He is now back in Darbar with a song he has voiced entirely, reports India Glitz.
The film recently wrapped the first schedule of shoot. The team will be travelling to Mumbai once again for the second 90-day schedule on May 29.
Rajinikanth reportedly plays a dual role in the film, which has Nayanthara as the heroine. It is speculated that he will be seen as an encounter specialist in one role. It is said that the second role is inspired by Manikkam from Baasha. Nivetha Pethuraj plays his daughter in the movie. Actor Dalip Tahil plays a senior officer, and Prateik Babbar is the antagonist. Yogi Babu, Bollywood actors Pradeep Kabra and Jatin Sarna are part of the cast.
Important action sequences have already been shot and a body double was used for the heavy-duty fight scenes where Rajinikanth takes on goons in Mumbai. The main set of an investigation room was reportedly put up at St Xavier’s College in Mumbai, and shooting also took place at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Royal Palms, Film City and other locations.
This is Rajinikanth’s 167th film, and his first with AR Murugadoss. Cinematography is by Santosh Sivan who is working on a Rajinikanth film 27 years after Thalapathy. Sreekar Prasad is the editor, T Santhanam is the art director, and Ram-Lakshman the stunt directors.
The film is being bankrolled by Lyca Productions. It is scheduled for a Pongal 2020 release.
