Vasanth, who is known for films such as Keladi Kanmani, Aasai and Rhythm, was a former assistant to the legendary director, the late K Balachander whose films have usually portrayed strong women characters. Vasanth’s films have always explored relationships and their tangles well, and with a certain sensitivity.

Based on short stories written by late stalwarts Ashokamitran and Aadhavan and the hugely-talented Jeyamohan, Sivaranjaniyum Innum Sila Pengallum stars Parvathy Thiruvothu, Lakshmi Priya Chandramouli, and Kaleseewari Srinivasan, with Karunakaran in a supporting role. NK Ekambaram and Ravee Roy have cranked the camera while editing is by Sreekar Prasad.

The film premiered at the 2018 MAMI film festival in Mumbai, winning the ‘Gender Equality’ award and a standing ovation. It was also screened at the 23rd International Film Festival of Kerala and the 11th Bangalore International Film Festival, with the film winning ‘Best Film’ award in the Asian Cinema category in the latter.

After the festival circuit, the film is expected to hit the big screen soon. Watch the trailer here.

Sivaranjaniyum Innum Sila Pengallum marked Vasanth’s return to cinema after his 2013 romantic-drama Moondru Per Moondru Kaadhal. His next film Thanneer is reportedly an adaptation of Ashokamitran’s novel by the same name. Vasanth also won the National Award for his documentary Sanath, which talks about a physically-challenged educationalist who is into farming.
