Sindhubaadh is an action film written and directed by SU Arun Kumar, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Anjali in the lead. Linga, Vivek Prasanna and Sethupathi’s son Surya play supporting roles. Yuvan Shankar Raja is the music composer, and the Sri Lanka-based songwriter Rahul Nadarajah is the lyricist.

The film is Vijay Sethupathi’s third project with Arun Kumar, after Pannaiyarum Padminiyum (2014) and Sethupathi (2016). A teaser for Sindhubaadh which released recently, opens to scenes in Thenkasi and Malaysia – the two places where the film was shot. The teaser promises an unusual action film, based on the premise that no matter where we live there’s danger chasing us as we run.

Vijay Sethupathi in the teaser reminds us of his role in Super Deluxe, the trailer for which released recently. There are goons chasing, shooting and bombing places. People are in danger, but Sethupathi’s voice-over says that the solution is to stare back at the problem to turn it on its head.

Anjali is also the protagonist like Sethupathi, and her actions follow a similar course. They are on the streets, empty lands, political rallies, discos. The colours quickly change from yellow to dark blue, red and green, leaving no vagueness in the mood that is tense. The music by Yuvan Shankar Raja helps create a curiosity in the beginning, which soon builds pace as the actors begin fighting back. The cuts are fast, and the teaser ends before Sethupathi can land safely after a jump.

Anjali and Sethupathi were last seen together in Karthik Subbaraj’s Iraivi. Unlike director Arun Kumar’s previous films, Sindhubaadh is being made on a big budget. It is produced by SN Rajarajan and Shan Sutharsan for Vansan Movies and K Productions (distributors of Baahubali 2). The cinematography for the film is by Vijay Kartik Kannan.

Sindhubaadh releases this summer. Watch the teaser here:
