Silambarasan will play a negative role in Venkat Prabhu’s film Maanaadu. A spokesperson of the director confirmed that the actor will be playing the role of a villain in the film.

Last month, the director had shared the title poster of the film.

Going by the tagline, “Stand for what is right even if it means standing alone,” the film is pegged to be a political thriller. It is expected that the director will discuss the current political scenario prevailing in Tamil Nadu.

Suresh Kamatchi produces the film and Prabhu had announced earlier that the film will have a ‘fresh script’ and will not be a sequel to any of his earlier work. It was also reported that the film will be a summer 2019 release.

About the film, the director told Firstpost, “It’s a long pending project to both of us. We have been talking about a possible collaboration for a long time but suddenly STR called me and I narrated his characterization along with the outline of the script. STR felt positive about the rough idea and gave his nod. I’m sure the content will be different for STR who has a massive fan base, his character in the film will definitely excite them.”

Meanwhile, Prabhu is awaiting the release of Party. The film has an ensemble cast headlined by Sathyaraj, Ramya Krishnan, Regina Cassandra, Shiva, Jai, Chandran among others.

Simbu has finally wrapped up Mani Ratnam’s Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. The multi-starrer will release on September 28. The actor is also in talks with Vijaya Studios for a new film and is expected to team up with Kalaipuli S Thanu’s production house for a movie.
