Siddharth has replaced STR in Shankar’s Indian 2 – the sequel of the Kamal Haasan starrer that released in 1997. The movie is set to go on floors from January 18.
It was reported a while back that STR was offered a role in the movie. However, reports suggest that Siddharth has replaced the actor and has signed up for the role.
“The role that was rumoured to be played by Simbu has now been offered to Siddharth. He has officially signed up and will join the sets of the movie next week,” said a source.
There hasn’t been any confirmation regarding his character in the film. “The role is still kept under wraps by the team. So, we don’t know if the role is that of a cop or Senapathy’s grandson. Though Simbu was one of the choices, he was not officially on board for the film. It was Siddharth who officially signed it a few days ago,” added the source.
The project will take two years to complete and will release in 2021. Produced by Lyca productions who had financed the director’s previous movie 2.0, Indian 2 will be shot across Chennai, Pollachi, Hyderabad, Taiwan, Ukraine and Poland.
The makers had released a first look poster this week.

Kajal Aggarwal is the female lead in the movie, it marks her first collaboration with the director and actor. The actress is reportedly learning Kalaripayattu to prepare for her part in the film.
Music for Indian 2 is by Anirudh Ravichander who composed for Rajinikanth’s Petta. He replaces Shankar’s regular and long-time collaborator AR Rahman for the project. The pre-production work for the movie began in November, when T Muthuraj, the movie’s production designer sharing a photo from the sets.
Kamal Haasan has said that Indian 2 will be his last film before he takes the plunge into full-time politics. He said at a public function, “I’ll quit acting after the upcoming project Indian 2.”
