Sid Sriram Turns Composer For Mani Ratnam’s Upcoming Production

Playback singer Sid Sriram has turned composer for Vaanam Kottatum, directed by Dhana Sekharan, produced and co-written by Mani Ratnam. The film stars Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Rajesh, Radhika Sarathkumar and others.

Sid Sriram confirmed the news on Twitter and wrote, “Humbled by the blessings of my loved ones, family, gurus and supporters. Going to need all your love, we’re going to make something special!”

Aishwarya Rajesh said she was excited that he was part of the film. Sivakarthikeyan, Vikram Prabhu and Jonita Gandhi congratulated him.

The film was initially planned with composer Govind Vasantha for music, and he had also posted a picture with Mani Ratnam saying he was looking forward to the film. But he had to back out reportedly because of date clashes.

Speaking to Times of IndiaSid Sriram said work on the music has started. “We’re going to present a completely new sound. I’ve had many conversations with director Dhana Sekaran to get the different emotional textures of the film. I’ve started sketching the different sonic and musical spaces that I want these songs to occupy. I’ve had some conversations with Mani sir as well, which have been very encouraging,” he said.

Sid Sriram is best known for songs such as ‘Ennodu Nee Irundhaal’ from I, ‘Thalli Pogathey’ from Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada, ‘Macho’ from Mersal, and his debut as a playback singer – ‘Adiye’ from Mani Ratnam’s Kadal.

Others in the crew for the film include Preetha Jayaraman for cinematography and Amaran for art direction. Aishwarya Rajesh and Vikram Prabhu play siblings in the film, and Madonna Sebastian is likely star opposite Vikram Prabhu. Radhika and Sarathkumar have important roles.

Sources say shoot will begin in Chennai later this month. Madras Talkies have previously backed Dumm Dumm Dumm and Five Star, which were also by Mani Ratnam’s associates. Vaanam Kottatum was initially planned as a Mani Ratnam directorial, but he couldn’t take it up because of the pre-production work for Ponniyin Selvan.
