Actor Santhanam has signed his next film with director R Kannan of Boomerang fame. The duo have worked together on films such as Jeyam Kondaan and Kanden Kadhalai, and the upcoming action-comedy will be Kannan’s first film with Santhanam as a lead actor.
Speaking to Silverscreen, the director said, “We’ve known each other for 10 years now and are very good friends. Santhanam is shooting in Mumbai, and when I met him to narrate the script he enjoyed the story and he immediately signed on. His roles in my films have had a reach, this film too will be in his brand of comedy but it will not resort to any kind of offensiveness in the name of comedy. I think the story is different from regular Tamil comedy films, and it will be a fun-filled entertainer.”
He adds that the film will be strong on its production value, and the rest of the cast and crew are yet to be finalised. The film will be produced by Kannan’s home banner along with MK Ramprasad. Shoot is likely to begin in the next two months and a release can be expected by this year end.
Meanwhile, Santhanam is currently in talks with director M Rajesh and official announcements about a project can be expected soon, a source close to the actor told Silverscreen.
Santhanam is currently in Mumbai for the shoot of A1 or Accused No 1. He stars in the lead along with Tara Alisha Berry, who makes her Tamil debut with this film. It is directed by newcomer Johnson, the winner of Naalaiya Iyakkunar Season 4. As reported earlier, the film will be set in North Madras. The director said, “It has an interesting story which does not solely rely on its comedy.”

Actor Santhanam was last seen as the hero of Dhilluku Dhuddu 2. He has completed work on Server Sundaram and Odi Odi Uzhaikanum, but the projects have been delayed. Santhanam’s film with Selvaraghavan, Mannavan Vanthanadi, faced legal trouble earlier this year when one of the co-producers claimed all rights to the film and prevented a third party ownership.
