Sanjay Leela Bhansali Co-Produces A Film Based On Narendra Modi’s Teen Years

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, on Tuesday, released, on Twitter, a poster of Mann Bairagi, a feature film based on the ‘defining moment’ in the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s life. The film is directed by Sanjay Tripathy, and produced by director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Mahaveer Jain. The poster release coincides with Modi’s 69th birthday. According to an IANS report, Mann Bairagi is about Modi’s life as a teenager, and the years which changed his ‘perspective of existence’.

Mann Bairagi is the latest addition to the ever-expanding pop-culture presence of Modi whose biopic, PM Narendra Modi, starring Vivek Oberoi and co-produced by his father Suresh Oberoi, released in May 24, immediately following BJP’s victory in Lok Sabha elections. Eros Motion Pictures produced a web series titled, Modi: Journey Of A Common Man, in April 2019, when the Lok Sabha election campaign was at its peak. In 2014, a Gujarati language drama, Namo Saune Gamo, based on Modi’s life, kicked up a controversy in the state. It was released around the time BJP had named Modi its Prime Ministerial candidate in the Lok Sabha elections. The film was pulled back from theatres after the Vadodara-unit of the Congress approached the District Election Officer in protest. Another film on Modi, titled Modi Kaka Ka Gaon, produced by Bharatiya Janata Party member CA Suresh Jha and directed by Tushar Amrish Goel, was made in 2017. In Uri (2019), a blockbuster based on the surgical strike conducted by Indian army in Uri in 2016, Rajit Kapoor played Modi. At the inauguration of  the National Museum of Indian Cinema in Mumbai, Modi used the popular punch dialogue from the film, “How’s The Josh!”, acknowledging Bollywood’s rapport with him.
