Sandeep Singh Biopic Starring Diljit Dosanjh Titled Soorma

Punjabi actor Diljit Dosanjh, who made his Bollywood debut in Udta Punjab last year, will essay the role of former Indian hockey captain Sandeep Singh. The actor shared the title and new poster of the film on Twitter today.

Soorma focusses on Singh’s life, particularly how he was grievously injured after being hit in an accidental gunshot while traveling by train in 2006. At the time, Singh was at the peak of his career and on his way to join the rest of the team in Germany for the Hockey World Cup. He was almost paralysed and wheelchair-bound for two years, but relentlessly worked out and recovered, and even managed to re-establish himself in the team.

The film also stars Taapsee Pannu, and is directed by Shaad Ali. It is slated for a June 29, 2018 release.

Padmavati Row: Supreme Court Refuses To Ban The Film, Says Those ‘Holding Office Shouldn’t Comment On Such Issues’

The Supreme Court has reportedly refused a request to ban Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic drama Padmavati. An NDTV report states that the SC even said Chief Ministers and other politicians who hold public offices ‘should not comment on such issues’.

The bench, headed by Chief Dipak Misra, dismissed the petition saying:

“When the matter is pending the  consideration of the CBFC (Central Board of  Film Certification), how can persons holding public offices comment on whether CBFC should issue certificate or not? That will prejudice the decision of the CBFC.”

The court’s response was to a petition filed by lawyer ML Sharma who wanted the CBI to intervene and probe Bhansali and others for defamation and violation of The Cinematograph Act, 1952.

Meanwhile, Anil Vij, a Haryana minister and a member of the BJP, did not take the court’s decision too kindly. Speaking to ANI, the politician wondered if the decision was a democratic one or not.

The film, made on a budget of Rs 190 crores, stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini, Shahid Kapoor as Ratan Singh, and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji. The makers have repeatedly denied reports that the film showcases any romance between Padmini and Khilji.

I don’t see it as giving anything up, I just see it as a change.”

The wedding will take place in spring 2018. The two, who have been dating for 16 months now, got engaged in London earlier this month. It is reported that they will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.
