Samuthirakani announced the new film on his birthday, April 26, with a poster featuring him and actor-director Sasikumar, his regular collaborator and friend. The film will be produced by Samuthirakani.

Speculations are that the movie will be a sequel to Nadodigal 2. Further announcements are awaited.

Samuthirakani and Sasikumar have previously worked on Subramaniapuram, Easan, Poraali, and Appa. In 2009 they collaborated for Nadodigal, a film about a group of friends who fight odds to help a couple elope. Nadodigal became a super-hit, and a sequel was announced in January last year.

Nadodigal 2 stars Anjali, along with Bharani, Athulya, MS Bhaskar, Namo Narayanan, Tulasi, Sri Ranjani. Music is composed by Justin Prabhakaran. The original film was produced by S Michael Rayappan of Global Entertainer, and the sequel is by S Nandagopal of Madras Entertainment.

The director reportedly said that the sequel has no connection to the earlier one, but friendship and love will be a repeating theme. It is also believed that the story revolves around caste violence. Sasikumar’s character is said to be inspired by social reformer Jeevanandam. Anjali’s character is inspired by Sengodi, the woman who died protesting against the death sentences given to Rajiv Gandhi assassination convicts.

The title of the film was initially planned to be Raththam, but Sasikumar later suggested Nadodigal 2. The sequel went on floors early in 2018, and wrapped shoot by June.

Anjali shared a poster on twitter earlier this year.

Samuthirakani is currently busy with a slew of projects in Tamil, and also SS Rajamouli’s RRR in Telugu. While the makers haven’t revealed his character in the film, he recently posted a picture of from sets. The story is set in the 1920s, and Samuthirakani has a retro look with longer hair and bell-bottoms, similar to Sasikumar’s look in Subramaniyapuram.
