Kappal, directed by debutant Karthik, will be released by director Shankar under his banner S Pictures. Karthik is a former associate of Shankar and has worked with him in Endhiran. Kappal, a comedy, features Vaibhav and Sonam Bajwa in lead roles. In an interview to the English daily Deccan Chronicle, director Karthik has said that Shankar watched the film in a special screening despite being busy with I. Four days after watching Kappal, Shankar agreed to release the film. Talking about Kappal, Shankar said, “After a very long time, S Pictures has acquired a movie. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Kappal and kept laughing right from the beginning. The film will be received well by audience of all centres.”
Produced by I Studios Entertainment, Kappal has Arjunan, VTV Ganesh and Karunakaran in supporting roles. Natarajan Sankaran of Moodar Koodam fame scores the music.
