A week after it was declared that Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s S Durga would be screened at the International Film Festival of India in Goa, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) rejected its screening merely hours before the end of the film festival.

It is reported that the CBFC was originally supposed to examine the U/A certificate given to the film, after complaints arose by the jury with respect to its title. The alleged alteration in the title and the CBFC’s review allowed the organisers to avoid screening the film altogether. The Times of India also reports that the one of the main reasons used for denying permission was because of the title, something that was changed from Sexy Durga to S Durga.

Sanal has lashed out at the jury and the CBFC for curbing the freedom of expression in his case.

Meanwhile, the film festival has come to an end. Here’s a list of the winners:

Parliamentary Panel Wants Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Prasoon Joshi To Arrive At A Consensus

A parliamentary committee has reportedly ordered director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi to arrive at a consensus with respect to the film Padmavati. PTI reports that a 30-member committee has also asked producers of the movie and officials of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry for a briefing on Thursday.

The film is yet to be cleared by the censor board, considering its release was initially scheduled for December 1. The film’s application for a certificate was reportedly rejected because it was incomplete.

Several right-wing fringe outfits in Rajasthan have opposed the release of the film, particularly spearheaded by the Karni Sena. The protest against the film stems from their belief that Bhansali has distorted history in his film and has portrayed ‘their’ Rani Padmini in an unfavourable light.
