In a Facebook post, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma praised young actor Vijay Deverakonda for his performance in Arjun Reddy. He also said that Deverakonda’s intensity onscreen is on a par with Amitabh Bachchan.

Deverakonda was the ‘first and only’ actor who can look like a hero without any special effects, Varma said. He said that the actor was a cross between Al Pacino and Amitabh Bachchan, and that he was sure to become a trendsetter in the industry. Calling him a likely ‘Amitabh Bachchan of Telugu Film Industry’, Varma also predicted that he could go on to become the first mega star of Telangana state.
Varma was all praise for the film’s director Sandeep Reddy as well. He said that it would be wrong on the part of Telugu filmmakers to not take up Sandeep as a benchmark when it comes to directing films.
