Rashmika Mandanna has called off her engagement with Rakshit Shetty. The actors had met on the sets of Kirik Party and their engagement was announced last year.
The news of their relationship break-up has led to speculations over the reason behind the split. While some blame Rashmika’s burgeoning Telugu career for it, others hint that Rakshit was disappointed that Rashmika was not concentrating enough on her Kannada film career. That Rakshit deactivated all his social media accounts has only served to increase the scrutiny on the break up. Some reports state that the engagement was called off “over compatibility issues between the two families”.
A spokesperson for the families told Silverscreen that both sides were disappointed with how things have turned out. “Both Rashmika and Rakshit had planned their lives together. But it was not meant to be. For now, they are going to concentrate on their careers and put this behind them. Looking forward is the only way.”
Rashmika refused to comment on the issue. Repeated calls to Rakshit were ignored as well.
Earlier this year, fans of the former couple trolled Rashmika Mandanna after she shared a poster of Geetha Govindam. The poster featured her co-star Vijay Deverakonda carrying Rashmika on his back. Sexist comments were made against her and some even requested her to stop acting in films that will make her then fiance, Rakshit, look bad. Mandanna, however, hit back at criticism and said:
“Male actors romance other heroines even after getting married, but people have no problem with that just because they’re men! It’s like if a woman romances a guy onscreen after marriage, she loses her respect. It’s disgusting that people think this way. I left the trollers a message asking them to DM me personally and not annoy my fans. There were many who were jealous that I was acting with Vijay and that I’m engaged to Rakshit!”
