Rakul Preet Singh To Play Sridevi In NTR Biopic

Rakul Preet Singh at Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru Press Meet

The cast members of the NTR biopic are slowly being unraveled. Last week, Rana Daggubati confirmed that he will be playing Chandrababu Naidu in the NT Rama Rao biopic that stars Balakrishna in the titular role. As per the latest news, Rakul Preet Singh is set to play Sridevi’s character in the biopic.

There were speculations that Shraddha Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha and Kangana Ranaut were approached for the role, however, producer Vishnu Induri told Mid-Day, “We haven’t approached Sonakshi, Kangana or Shraddha. Rakul Preet Singh is our only choice as she’s popular in the South, especially in Telugu films.” He added that almost 30 per cent of the shoot is completed. While Vidya Balan has shot for six days, the makers are waiting for Rakul Preet’s date as she is busy with her other projects.

Talking about Rakul’s character, Induri further said that though it’s an extended cameo, it’s a fact that NTR was instrumental in shaping Sridevi’s early career, after all they have done over 14 films together.

While it was earlier reported that Rana Daggubati will be playing the role of the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh who is also NTR’s son-in-law, Vidya Balan will be playing the role of NTR’s wife Basavatarakam. The film is produced by NTR’s son Balakrishna, Vishnu Induri and Sai Korrapati. Reports also suggest that the film will star Keerthy Suresh, Mohan Babu, and Sumanth.

The biopic went on floors early last month and is slated for a Sankranthi release next year. It is being directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, who is also working on Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika.

Apart from the biopic, Rakul Preet has four films, three in Tamil and one in Hindi. She will be seen in Ajay Devgn’s De De Pyaar De, Suriya’s NGK, Karthi’s Dev and Sivakarthikeyan’s untitled science fiction film that will be directed by Ravi Kumar of Indru Netru Naalai fame.
