Actor Rajinikanth is not supporting anyone in the upcoming by-election for the RK Nagar Assembly, formerly held by late Chief Minister J Jayalalitha. Rajinikanth’s spokesperson told Silverscreen that while the BJP candidate Gangai Amaren had met Rajinikanth, it was not a political meeting.
Rajinikanth tweeted:
My support is for no one in the coming elections.

A sudden meeting between Rajinikanth and Gangai Amaren earlier this month had fuelled rumours that the ‘Superstar’ was supporting Amaren in the by-election.
Further, Gangai Amaren’s son, director Venkat Prabhu, had also indirectly implied that Amaren had Rajini’s support, when he tweeted:
Today our thalaivar @superstarrajini met and wished my dad for his political victory in #RKNagarByElection #happyson #GangaiAmaran pic.twitter.com/K4t3UcU3O1

But, Rajinikanth’s spokesperson told Silverscreen that it was a regular meeting between colleagues and nothing more: “There have been rumours that sir is supporting one candidate over the other. While it is true that Gangai Amaren, one of the candidates in the running for the elections. visited Rajinikanth. It had nothing to do with politics. It was a normal meeting between old colleages and nothing more. As always, he remains committed to the people of TN and their future. While he will strive to make life easier for his people anyway he could, he has no interest in politics right now.”
