Rajinikanth May Play A Father And Son In ‘Darbar’

It has been widely speculated that Rajinikanth plays a dual role in AR Murugadoss’ Darbar, co-starring Nayanthara. A report by Cinema Dinamalar says that he may be seen as a father and son. Unconfirmed reports also speculate that he plays the roles of a cop and social activist.

The film’s spokesperson told Silverscreen that any confirmation regarding the film cannot be given till an official announcement is made. The title and first-look poster released last week, giving a lot of hints that he plays a police officer in the film.

Meanwhile, a picture of director Vignesh Shivn and Rajinikanth from the sets of Darbar have gone viral on social media. This has lead to speculations that he may be directing Rajinikanth in a comedy entertainer after Darbar. Rajinikanth’s last full-length comedy was Thillu Mullu.

Some also say that Vignesh Shivan, who is a good friend of Anirudh’s, will be writing the lyrics of one of the songs in Darbar. 

The film’s spokesperson dismissed these speculations and told Silverscreen, “If anyone simply posts a picture with Rajinikanth, in a fan moment, these reports starts doing the rounds.” Earlier, similar speculations were made when director KS Ravikumar met Rajinikanth.

The makers of Darbar began shoot in Mumbai on April 10, and the movie is scheduled for a 2020 release. Announcements about the rest of the team were also made recently.

Cinematographer Santosh Shivan will be working with Rajinikanth 27 years after Thalapathy. The music is by Anirudh RavichanderSreekar Prasad is the editor, T Santhanam the art director, Ram-Lakshman are the stunt directors. The film is being bankrolled by Lyca Productions, the producers of 2.0.

Darbar is director AR Murugadoss’ first film with Rajinikanth and Nayanthara. Talks are reportedly on with Nivetha Thomas to play Rajini’s daughter in the film. It has been speculated that one of his dual character will star opposite Keerthy Suresh, and SJ Suryah will be seen as the antagonist.

The director had earlier hinted in an interview that the film might be a fantasy venture. This is Rajinikanth’s 167th film, and is believed to be his last one before he enters politics.
