Raghava Lawrence’s Muni 4 is slated to release in the summer of 2019. The actor-cum-director says that the movie has shaped up well and retains all the ingredients that made the Kanchana and Muni franchise successful at the box office.

Muni and Kanchana movies are unique in their own ways. There is a horror element that drives the movie, but it’s the comedy that is still remembered. We have taken that to the next level with Muni 4,” says Lawrence.

Devadarshini and Sriman are on board again. So are Manobala and Kovai Sarala. “They are all incredible comic talents in their own right. But together, they become something else altogether,” he says.

Lawrence shares that he had a great time working on the film: “Some of us have been together for a decade now and it just makes the whole experience positive. Though the film is horror, the sets were always full of positivity.”

Oviya and Vedhika are the female leads in Muni 4, and Lawrence says both actors have shouldered the movie. “Vedhika and Oviya are talented actors. They brim with energy, be it a dance scene or an emotional one. They need not be told what to do. They instinctively understand what is required and deliver it.”

S Thaman’s background score will come in for a lot of acclaim, says Lawrence. “Sound design and sound effects are very important for a horror film. Thaman has outdone himself, and once the movie releases, you will see exactly how he has set music for some complicated situations onscreen.”

Lawrence says that Muni 4 will have him in an eye-catching introductory song, as is the norm for all his films. “I am a dancer and I strongly believe that we must make use of our best abilities. I have a very special song for the audience in Muni 4. It will make everybody want to dance,” he says.

Lawrence hasn’t ventured beyond horror comedies for a while now. And he has no plans of doing so. “I always say, stick to what you know. I have come to know the horror genre now. So I’m sticking to it. But if someone comes to me with a challenging script, I am not going to reject it. I am open.”

Most of Muni 4′s shoot has been completed. Some scenes and a song are yet to be shot. With post production work underway, the film is set to release on April 18, 2019.
