Actor and director Raghava Lawrence has built a house for an old woman whose thatched roof hut was destroyed in cyclone Gaja last year.
He had announced that he would build 50 houses for people affected by Gaja in Tamil Nadu in November 2018, and promised to build the old woman a house which was destroyed in her village in Tanjavur district. It was brought to his attention by people who shared videos of her situation on social media.
The construction of the house was completed recently, and a house warming function took place. Lawrence tweeted pictures of the function. He said, “Many people requested me to help this amma since Gaja cyclone. I’m very happy that the construction is completed. My heartful thanks to all the boys for bringing this to my knowledge.”
He also said in a press statement that he will continue helping those affected by Gaja cyclone.

A week ago, Raghava Lawrence made headlines for building a house at a cost of Rs 10 lakhs in Alangudi for 70-year-old social worker Ganesan, who was also affected by Gaja. Ganesan runs free ambulance service for accident emergency and delivery cases, conducts the funeral of unclaimed bodies and carries out other work for which he has also been given awards by various organisations.
In April, ahead of the release of Kanchana 3: Muni 4, the director bought a plot of land in Minjur near Chennai for transgender persons to build house. After handing over the ground, a public appeal was made for contributions for the construction of a three storey building to house upto 100 people per floor.
He also donated Rs 1 crore to the Kerala government during the floods last year and helped raise funds.
The actor-director’s Kanchana 3, co-starring Oviya and Vedhika, had the third biggest opening of 2019, earning over Rs 100 crores worldwide weeks after release. Soon after the film, he began work on the Hindi remake of Kanchana: Muni 2, but quit yesterday because he was disrespected by the team.
