R Madhavan will be playing a pilot for the third time in his career in Sushant Singh Rajput’s sci-fi film Chanda Mama Door Ke, reports DNA. Rajput even took to social media to express his excitement about working with the Irudhi Suttru actor.

Speaking about his role, Madhavan revealed that he is confident about his part in the movie as he had played a pilot in Rang De Basanti (2006) and also in the Doordarshan serial Sea Hawks (1997-1998).
“I have a defense background as I have trained for the NCC (National Cadet Corps). And, having played this role before, I know the basics. This role will definitely require much prepping as we are doing it with a lot of authenticity,” he was quoted as saying.
Said to be a space adventure, the film features Sushant Singh Rajput as an astronaut. The ground-work for the film has already begun with Rajput frequently putting up videos and pictures of his training.

To be directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan (who won the National Award for Lahore in 2010), the film’s cast also includes Nawazuddin Siddiqui, with a possible cameo by actor Mohanlal. The story is said to be about a team of astronauts who go on a mission that will bring the country together. “Our story isn’t based on anyone in particular, but is inspired by multiple incidents that occurred in the past. It traces the journey of India’s space programmes and culminates with the country’s first astronaut landing on the moon in 2017-18,” the director said.
The team has also reached out to Hollywood VFX technicians for the movie’s special effects.
Meanwhile, Madhavan has reportedly lost a lot of weight (11 kgs in muscle) for the roles in his upcoming films. “I have seven films – three in Hindi and four in the South – and most [sic] require me to have a lean and mean look,” he added. The actor also has a web series in the pipeline.
