The Madras High Court has directed 37 internet service providers to prohibit 1129 websites uploading pirated versions of Nerkonda Paarvai, starring Ajith, Shraddha Srinath and others.
The film, directed by H Vinoth, released in theatres yesterday, but was leaked online a week before and some scenes were also widely shared on social media. Following this, producer Boney Kapoor’s Bayview Projects LLP moved the Madras High Court seeking a ban on Tamil Rockers and other websites with pirated versions of the movie.
According to a report by Deccan Herald, his counsel said that the film’s trailer released on June 12 and garnered 14 million views on YouTube. Stating that he had the distribution, TV and internet rights to the movie, which were exclusive under the Copyrights Act, he said that various cable and internet services providers across the world were involved in recording, camcording and reproducing songs and films that are screened in theatres, which are sold to people for a meager amount and result in heavy losses for producers.
The petition was heard by Justice Krishnaswamy this week, who directed 37 internet service providers, including BSNL, to prohibit websites screening pirated versions of the film.
Ahead of the release yesterday, the makers organised a grand premiere show in Singapore, and a press show in Chennai on August 6. It is said that despite the filmmakers’ measures to avoid camcording, fans shot a few scenes at the premiere show and leaked them online.

The film is a remake of Pink in Tamil, starring Ajith, Shraddha Srinath, Abhirami Venkatachalam, Andrea Tariang, Adhik Ravichandran, Rangaraj Pandey and others. Vidya Balan and Kalki Koechlin make a guest appearance. Music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography by Nirav Shah and editing by Gokul Chandran.
Meanwhile, work on Ajith’s next with H Vinoth and Boney Kapoor will begin soon. Latest reports say that Arun Vijay is in talks to play the villain in this film, said to be a commercial action-entertainer.
