Priyanka Chopra’s Debut Production Draws Flak

Priyanka Chopra’s debut  production under her banner Purple Pebble Pictures (PPP), has been criticized for containing obscenity.

The Bhojpuri film titled Bam Bam Bol Raha Hai Kashi was first premiered on 9 June, 2016 in Patna. Directed by Bhojpuri filmmaker Santosh Mishra, the film stars leading Bhojpuri on-screen couple Dinishlal Niarahua and Amrapali Dubey.

While Chopra joins the league of other women producers in the film fraternity like Anushka Sharma, Ekta Kapoor, Shonali Bose, and Lara Dutta, Chopra is reportedly receiving flak for the sleazy content in her film.

Bhojpuri director, Nitin N Chandra who won a National Award for his film Mithila Makhan this year, was appalled at her venture and even wrote an open-letter to her. “At a time when my mother tongue Bhojpuri is fighting for its existence, Priyanka has not only defamed herself but also besmirched her Padma Shri award by producing a movie like this,” he said.

Meanwhile, unfazed by the flak and saying that she is a fan of such “latke-jhatke” in movies, Chopra will also produce a Marathi and a Punjabi film soon under her banner.

Chopra’s production house will be focusing on regional cinema more than commercial Hindi films for now. “The romance-drama is the first of a string of films PPP is producing this year in an effort to promote regional cinema,” the actor’s spokesperson told Mumbai Mirror.
