In the petition, Saravanan states that the show, which airs on Vijay TV, portrays female participants in a vulgar and obscene manner. He also alleged that the show hurts the sentiments of certain sections of people, namely slum dwellers.

According to a report in the Deccan Chronicle, Saravanan said, “The show plays with the emotions of the contestants. The inappropriate dressing of the women contestants make[s] me and my family uncomfortable while watching the show. Moreover they are portrayed in a vulgar manner and the concept of the show is against Tamil culture.”

Saravanan also wants the show to be censored before it is telecast, as some of the show’s content is objectionable, according to him. He further said, “A contestant of the show referred [to] another contestant’s behaviour as ‘cheri’ and this reference affected the sentiments of people of slum.”

Saravanan said he had sent a representation to Vijay TV on July 29. As the channel failed to respond, he has now filed a petition to stop the show from being aired.

The petition is likely to be heard on Monday.

While representatives from Vijay TV say that the show is being watched by over three crore people, the show’s content has been criticised ever since its launch a month ago.

The right-wing group Hindu Makkal Katchi had protested against the show in front of the channel a few weeks ago, arguing that the show should be stopped as its concept was against Tamil culture.

The Puthiya Thamizhagam had served legal notice to the channel and Kamal Haasan on July 30 for hurting the sentiments of slum dwellers, due to the a comment made by a contestant on the show.

Given these legal hurdles and protests, it remains to be seen whether the show will continue to run.
