Petta Celebrations: Fans Get Married At A Theater In Chennai

While it is common for fans of Rajinikanth to celebrate the release of their star’s film with palabhishekam, massive cutouts and hoardings of the actor, and fireworks, Anbarasu, a die-hard fan of Rajini, chose to wed on the release day of Petta. Anbarasu and his fiancée Kamatchi, tied the knot at the Woodlands theatre in Royapettah, Chennai on Thursday.

The wedding was headed by Sinora Ashok, the organiser of south Chennai’s Rajini Rasigar Mandram. Rajini fans who flocked the theatre to watch the movie were witness to the celebrations which were performed as per traditional Hindu rituals. Food was then served to those who were present during the ceremony. The newly-wed couple was also bestowed with gifts by the fans and fan clubs who had come to watch Petta.

Celebrations also included folk art performances like Mayilaatam, Oyilaatam and other dances ahead of the wedding. Reports also surfaced of another wedding held in Thanjavur yesterday along with the release day celebrations of Petta.

Rajinikanth’s films are always marked by massive celebrations and fan frenzy leading up to the release. During the release of Sivaji, fans showed their love for the actor by shaving their heads. and when Enthiran released, they wore tattoos on their shaved heads.

Directed by Karthik Subbaraj and produced by Sun Pictures, Petta features Rajinikanth with a big star cast including Trisha Krishnan, M Sasikumar, Simran, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Bobby Simha. Anirudh Ravichander has composed music for the film, replacing Subbaraj’s usual music director Santhosh Narayanan. The reviews for the film are largely positive. His other most recent releases are director Shankar’s 2.0 co-starring Amy Jackson, and the Pa Ranjith-directed Kaala which hit theatres in mid 2018.

Rajinikanth announced his intention to enter politics in December 2017. However, he is yet to launch his party or make known his political affiliations.
