The Padmavati team, led by director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, has confirmed that the film will not have any romantic scenes or songs between the two main characters Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji. The announcement comes in the wake of an attack against the filmmaker for “harming” the sentiments of the Rajput community. The film’s official Twitter handle has now clarified that reports of a dream sequence were misconceptions.

The team also requested fans of Bhansali, and the film’s leads Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, and Ranveer Singh to retweet the news and spread the hashtag #NoSceneBetweenRaniPadmavatiAndAlauddinKhilji.

The clarifications have come after Bhansali was assaulted by a group of Karni Sena members who stormed into the film’s sets at Jaigarh fort in Jaipur last month. The Sena members vandalised the sets and tore Bhansali’s shirt. They were eventually stopped by security members who fired shots into the air.
Earlier, despite repeated statements from the team that there was no dream sequence, the Karni Sena had continued their protests, and a BJP leader has even offered a Rs.10,000/- reward to anyone who slaps Bhansali.

The group, which has targeted Ekta Kapoor and Zee News over Jodha Akbar in the past, said they had a problem with the alleged distortion of facts in the period drama. According to them, Bhansali was showing queen Padmavati in a poor light by depicting her as romantically involved with Alauddin Khilji.
Shobha Sant, CEO of Bhansali Films had written a letter to Giriraj Singh Lotwara, president of the Rajput Sabha, stating that the team had no intention of hurting the sentiments of the community. The attack on the director has revived debates on intolerance and film on social media platforms. Many celebrities have condemned the attack as well.
Padmavati stars Deepika Padukone as Queen Padmavati. Alauddin Khilji, her arch-rival, will be portrayed by Ranveer Singh while Shahid Kapoor plays Padmavati’s husband Rawal Ratan Singh.
