New Look From Mohanlal-Starrer ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’ Out

Loham Movie Sills

A new look from Mohanlal-starrer Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham has released. The film, directed by Priyadarshan, is likely to hit the screens later this year.

Mohanlal plays the titular role of Kunjali Marakkar IV, the naval chief of the Zamorin of Calicut. In the latest picture he has a simpler look and is in front of a thatched roof, in contrast to the first-look poster where he was seen in a turban holding an old-fashioned telescope.

The first-look was released by Mohanlal in December last year.

The film, co-written by Priyadarshan and Anil Sasi, is based on the life and exploits of Kunjali Marakkar IV, the naval chief who was deployed to defend the seas from Portuguese in the 16th century.

Actors Manju Warrier, Keerthy Suresh and Kalyani Priyadarshan also star in the lead. Bollywood actor Suneil Shetty, and Arjun Sarja reportedly have important roles.

Mohanlal revealed in a Facebook live chat before the release of Lucifer in March that the shooting of Marakkar completed in 110 days, and the film will be out this year. Made on a budget of Rs 100 crores, the film is pitched to be the most expensive Malayalam movie yet. It was shot in Hyderabad, Ooty and Rameshwaram, and was initially scheduled to release in 2020.

Antony Perumbavoor is producing the movie under his banner Aashirvad Films, along with Santhosh T Kuruvilla and Roy CJ. Award-winning art director Sabu Cyril worked on the massive film sets. Almost 40 percent of the film was reportedly shot in the sea with the set work involving construction of ships. The pre-production works alone took the team eight months.

Meanwhile, another film based on the life of Kunjali Marakkar IV, also starring Mohanlal was announced by director Santhosh Shivan back in November 2017. Shoot for the film is yet to begin.

Mohanlal, last seen in Prithviraj-directorial Lucifer, currently has Ittimani: Made In China and Big Brother under production. A sequel of Lucifer titled Emupran was also announced recently.
