Netflix To Produce A Biopic On Marilyn Monroe

Netflix has stepped in to produce a biopic on Marilyn Monroe. Based on the novel Blonde by Joyce Carol Oates, the movie will be produced by Netflix. Australian filmmaker Andrew Dominik will direct. In an interview with Indiewire, Dominik confirmed the new project and said, “I’m very grateful. My idea with the film is to make something a little more accessible than what I’ve done before. It moves a bit faster.”

The biopic has been under development since 2010 and has undergone several casting changes. Dominik has been attached to the project since its inception. Undeterred by the delays that afflicted his film, Domink tirelessly worked towards making his dream project a reality. In an interview, he said, “My heart belongs to Marilyn. I’d like to start shooting it next year, that’s what I’d like to do. It’s a really sprawling, emotional nightmare fairy-tale type movie, and I really want to do it real bad… It’s a story about an abandoned orphan who gets lost in the woods.”

It was initially set to go on floors with Australian actress Naomi Watts. But due to unknown reasons, she dropped out of the project and was instead replaced by American actress Jessica Chastain in 2014.

Shortly after Chastain joined the project, the film was stalled yet again. With Netflix stepping in to produce, the project has been revived.
