Director AR Murugadoss has denied speculations about the title of his upcoming film with Rajinikanth, he says it is not titled Naarkaali.
His last film was the political drama Sarkar which faced controversies and legal issues. There were rumours that his next would also be a political drama called Naarkkaali, but Murugadoss tweeted on Wednesday that these were only rumors.

In an interview in December last year, AR Murugadoss said he was a fan of Rajinikanth and had always wanted to direct him in a film. He also said that his upcoming with Rajini will be a mass entertainer and not a political film. There has been no official confirmation on this from Rajinikanth, who is presently riding on the success of Petta.
A spokesperson for Rajinikanth told Silverscreen recently, “Nothing has been confirmed as of now. Sir has just heard the script from AR Murugadoss, other things are under discussion and not final. We have a lot of time and our main focus is 2.0 and Petta.”
“Sometime in December or January, once we finalise the team, we will begin work and an official announcement will be made,” he added.
It was reported that cinematographer Santosh Sivan, who had worked with AR Murugadoss in Thuppaki and Spyder will be part of the team. Santosh Sivan was the cinematographer for Rajinikanth in Thalapathy, directed by Mani Ratnam way back in 1991. He hasn’t worked with the Superstar since then.
It is also said that the film will be produced by Lyca Productions, who are currently bankrolling director Shankar’s Indian 2, starring Kamal Haasan in the lead.

Previously, Murugadoss’s Sarkar ran into trouble with the TN state government and a few scenes were asked to be removed. Scenes involving the government’s freebie schemes were regarded offensive by the AIADMK-led state government.
Murugadoss also dealt with plagiarism charges that were levelled on him right before the film’s release. Writer and assistant director Varun Rajendran had claimed that the film’s story was based on his registered script. Following a court case, Sarkar team came forward to acknowledge the writer’s contribution in the film’s opening credits.
