The trailer starts off with the voice-over of Nivin Pauly talking about Baby – a not so righteous person who was killed by Pauly. His voice in Kannur dialect is juxtaposed with the dialogues of the other characters from the movie. While these dialogues are hard to piece together, Pauly’s rendition paints a proper picture of Baby. The teaser comes to a close with the visual of Nivin Pauly.

Moothon, meaning the elder one in Lakshadweep dialect, is the story of a man who journeys from the union territory to the Indian mainland in search of his elder sibling. Initially titled ‘Insha Alla’, the script by Geetu Mohandas had won the Global Filmmaking award at the Sundance Film Festival.

Anurag Kashyap, a co-producer on the film, has written the Hindi dialogues. “He is writing the dialogues in Hindi as the character goes to Mumbai to search for his brother. So, naturally, Hindi dialogues would be part of the script,” Geetu Mohandas said in an interview with The Hindu.

Moothon will mark Geetu Mohandas’s Malayalam directorial debut. She said it was the audience’s warm reception towards her husband Rajeev Ravi’s film Kammattipaadam that motivated her to make a film in Malayalam. “I come from the same school of filmmaking and so I thought that this would be a good time to make a film that would not compromise on aesthetic values but at the same time do complete justice to the theme and the story.”

Moothon features Bollywood actors like Shobita Dhulipala and Shashank Arora while also starring Roshan Mathew, Dileesh Pothan, Sujith Shankar and Melissa Raju Thomas.
