While earlier reports suggested that Hariharan would direct the film, now former ad filmmaker Sreekumar Menon has been roped in to direct the movie. The director told the Times of India,  “We will go on floors in 2018 with the project and the team who has been researching on the project for two years is about to wrap up the work. We have just started the pre-production work. It will be a project of international stature and once everything is in place, we will be giving the film a befitting launch.”

Mohanlal plays Bheema while other actors are yet to be finalised. The film will be shot in two parts. The projected budget for the movie is Rs. 600 crores. The 54-year-old actor had earlier played Bheema in a play called Chayamukhi along with actor Mukesh.
