Mohanlal’s Directorial Debut ‘Barroz’ Likely To Begin By The Year End

After playing the lead in Prithviraj Sukumaran’s directorial debut Lucifer, actor Mohanlal is set to make his directorial debut with Barroz – Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure. The movie, set against a Portuguese backdrop, is about the man who stands guard to Vasco D’Gama’s 400-year-old treasure, and is likely to go on floors by the year end.

Talking to Silverscreen, trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai said that given the actor’s current commitments, the movie is likely to begin only by the end of the year.

Taking to his blog on Easter, Mohanlal announced that he is set to helm a 3D film as his first directorial. “After standing in front of the camera for all these years, I am moving behind it,” wrote the actor. Stating that it was his pursuit of creative satisfaction that led him to the decision, Mohanlal assured that his movie would be one that could be enjoyed by kids and adults alike.

The story for the movie will be penned by Jijo Ponnoose – the director of India’s first 3D film, My Dear Kuttichaathan. The story revolves around Barroz and a kid who approaches the treasure keeper. While Mohanlal would appear in the titular role of Barroz, the team is currently on the lookout for an artiste who would play the role of the child.

The cast would comprise international actors. The movie is being planned as a franchise. Goa will be one of the primary locations for the movie. The actor has called his movie an “international” one.

He concluded his blog saying that he could feel the weight of direction on his head and that the story of Barroz has slowly taken over his mind. “I have started losing sleep and through this discomfort, Barroz will reveal himself, with a treasure in one hand and a boy with shining eyes in front of him.”

Mohanlal is currently basking in the success of Lucifer. The movie, a political thriller, released last month and has gone on to become a huge success.

His colleagues such as B Unnikrishnan and Prithviraj reacted to his decision on Twitter.
