Thani Oruvan (2015) was a landmark film in many ways. It forever did away with the tag of ‘Remake Raja’ that was used to describe Mohan Raja, and showed what kind of script he was capable of. The film did not dumb down the audience as it showcased the stand-off between  righteous police officer Mithran and the suave but cunning entrepreneur Siddharth Abhimanyu. The film won over both the audience and critics, and became Jayam Ravi’s highest grossing film till then.

Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi’s music for the original is still popular, and it is expected that he will join the team for the sequel too.

Ravi was last seen in space film Tik Tik Tik. He is working on Adanga Maru, directed by by newcomer Karthik Thangavel, in which he plays a fiery cop again, and an yet-to-be titled project to be directed by Ahmed of Manithan fame.
