Oooh we can’t wait for this one: Mammootty, Mohanlal Both To Play Naval Chief Kunjali Marakkar In Two Separate Period Dramas

Two simultaneous projects are rolling out, based on the life and times of the ancient Malabar hero Kunjali Marakkar. He was the naval chief of the Zamorin (Samoothiri) who fought the Portuguese.

Recently, Priyadarshan and Mohanlal made an official announcement regarding their upcoming big-budget project, titled as Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham.

Meanwhile, August Cinema, which will be producing Kunjali Marakkar IV with Mammootty on board, released a new poster confirming that the Malayalam superstar is ready to play the role of Kunjali Marakkar. One of the owners of August Cinemas, Shaji Nadesan shared the news on Facebook.

According to The Times Of India, Santosh Sivan was quoted as saying, “Everyone associated with both the projects is busy and it’s not like one fine day we can get them together and begin shooting to see whose film goes on floors first.”

While Priyadarshan is working with Mohanlal, Sivan will be directing Mammootty.

Mohanlal and Priyadarshan join hands after their last successful outing, Oppom in Malayalam. The duo has worked together for more than two decades, and boast a rich oeuvre of films such as Chithram,Boeing Boeing, Vellanakalude Nadu and Thalavattam.

Will Marakkar- Arabikadalinte Simham result in a clash between the two superstars of Malayalam cinema? Incidentally, this is the third time a film is being made on Kunjali Marakkar.
