The teaser of Mammootty’s Madhura Raja, the sequel to the 2010 film Pokkiri Raja, released two days back. The 45-second long teaser begins and ends with the superstar. When the camera is not busy filming him bashing up goons, it focuses on his physique.
There is not even the slightest sign of a plot in the teaser. Not only does the popular line “Raja and his men are not just strong, but double strong,” from the original movie find a mention but it also has received an upgrade from “Not just double, but triple strong.”
Madhura Raja is a spin-off of the Mammootty-Prithviraj starrer Pokkiri Raja. Pokkiri Raja, written by Udayakrishna and Siby K Thomas, and directed by Vyshakh, went on to become a huge success. The action movie featured Prithviraj as Mammootty’s brother, Shriya Saran as Prithviraj’s girlfriend, and Nedumudi Venu as the father of Mammootty and Prithviraj. Jassie Gift had composed music.
Madhura Raja will not be carrying forward the story of Pokkiri Raja but will be a standalone film. Mammootty reprises his role of Raja from the original. The shoot commenced in August 2018 and the movie is said to be the costliest film in Mammotty’s career so far. Subramaniapuram fame Jai makes his Malayalam debut with the movie. Yet, he has not been featured in the teaser.

Madhura Raja marks the coming together of director Vyshakh, scriptwriter Udayakrishna and stunt master Peter Hein. The trio had previously worked on Mohanlal’s Pulimrugan, which was one of the highest grossing Malayalam films.
Anushree, Mahima Nambiar and Shamna Kasim will be part of the cast. Angamaly Diaries fame Anna Reshma Rajan is also part of the movie. Sunny Leone will reportedly make a special appearance in the movie. Madhura Raja is slated to release on April 14, during the time of Vishu.
