Madras Wins Big at the 62nd Filmfare Awards (South)

The 62nd Filmfare Awards was held in Chennai yesterday. Actors and technicians from the southern industry attended the event which saw many a movie bagging awards under various categories.

Madras, which got nominated under nine categories, bagged four awards. Best Supporting Actress went to Ritwika for her earnest performance as Mary, Karthi won the Best Actor (Critics) award, which he dedicated to the residents of North Chennai where Madras was shot. Catherine Tresa won the award for Best Female Debut, while Pradeep Kumar won the Best Male singer award for Aagayam Theepiducha.

Kaththi won the coveted Best Film as well as the Best Director awards. AR Murugadoss was indeed one happy man. Shobi won the award for choreography for the song Pakkam Vandhu.

Velaiyilla Pattadhari was not far behind, with Dhanush winning his fourth Filmfare award for Best Actor (previously winning it for Aadukalam, 3 and Maryan) for his popular portrayal of Raghuvaran. Anirudh won the award for Best Music Director for his tunes in the film.

Malavika Nair, who enchanted critics and audiences alike with her performance as the visually-impaired Sudhanthirakodi in Cuckoo, walked away with the Best Actress award.

Bobby Simhaa was the lone winner in the Jigarthanda camp. He won the Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Assault Sethu (no surprises, here!). He said that Iraivi, his next project with Karthik Subbaraj, will be even better than Jigarthanda.

Saivam won two awards – Best Female Singer for Uthara Unnikrishnan and Best Lyrics for Na. Muthukumar for the song Azhage. The current heartthrob of South cinema, Dulquer Salmaan, won the Best Debut Award for Vaayai Moodi Pesavum.

Raadika Sarathkumar won the Lifetime Achievement Award along with IV Sasi for her contribution towards cinema.
