Leonardo DiCaprio’s powerful portrayal of American frontiersman Hugh Glass in The Revenant won him the best actor BAFTA award. DiCaprio had been unsuccessfully nominated thrice in the past – For The Aviator, The Departed and The Wolf of Wall Street.
The Revenant won the most of the top awards at the 69th British Academy Film Awards, including the one for the best picture. Alejandro González Iñárritu won the best director award, and Emmanuel Lubezki won the best cinematographer award.

Brie Larson won the best actress award for her role in Lenny Ambrahmason’s Room. Kate Winslet won her third BAFTA (after Sense and Sensibility and The Reader), this time for the best supporting actress, for her role as Apple marketing executive Joanna Hoffman in Steve Jobs.
Spotlight won one award, for the best original screenplay. Mad Max: Fury Road won four BAFTAs for hair and make up, editing, costume design and production design. Amy, a documentary about the life and death of Amy Winehouse, won the BAFTA for the best documentary film. Ennio Morricone (87) won the best music award for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight. This is his sixth BAFTA. Star Wars won in the special visual effects category.
