‘Kodathisamaksham Balanvakkeel’ Trailer: A Comedy, With Dileep As A Disabled Avocate

While Kodathisamaksham Balan sees Dileep playing yet another disabled character, the movie is a first of its kind for its director B Unnikrishnan who ventures into comedy.

Going by the trailer, the ‘irony’ of an advocate with a stutter, whose livelihood depends on his oratory skills, has been mined largely for laughs. Towards the latter half, the trailer shifts gear to action mode. A bunch of supporting characters make an appearance. The trailer shows all the signs of a masala movie, something the actor has been known for.

Mamtha Mohandas plays the client of Dileep’s advocate character Balan. The actor previously played a lawyer in the 2009 Ranjith Shankar movie Passenger, which also featured Mamta. Priya Anand makes a brief appearance in the trailer. She was last seen in Nivin Pauly’s Kayamkulam Kochunni.

The supporting cast includes Saiju Kurup, Siddique, Aju Varghese, Suraj Venjaaramoodu, Bindu Panicker, Renji Panicer, Lena, Sajid Yahiya and Bheeman Raghu.

Unnikrishan is a director known for his political thrillers. The closing shot of the trailer shows Dileep as a student activist of a left-wing party during his college days. There is also a scene where Mamta Mohandas says she has been advised by her lawyer to stay away from media. The director seems to be referring to the recent spat with lawyers and media persons in the state.

Following Dileep’s arrest in the actress assault case, and his subsequent release from jail, director B. Unnikrishnan’s decision to work with him was criticised. Members of Women In Cinema Collective (WCC) opposed this. A member, Parvathy Thiruvoth, said that many including Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar had refused to work with directors after allegations of sexual assault were levelled against them.

The director justified this by saying, “This film with Dileep is not a new announcement. It was committed long back – in 2013 while I was directing Mohanlal-starrer Mr Fraud. But later, Dileep couldn’t schedule his dates for the project and then I narrated the script to Mohanlal after making some changes. But Mohanlal said it was a script tailor-made for Dileep and that it would be better if I worked on it with him itself.”

Kodathisamaksham Balanvakkeel is produced by Viacom18 Motions Picture.
