KJ Yesudas And Ilaiyaraaja Team Up For Vijay Antony Starrer

K J Yesudoss Sings For Ilaiyaraaja After A Gap of 10 Years.

Renowned singer KJ Yesudas has collaborated with composer Ilaiyaraaja after a decade’s gap for the Vijay Anthony-starrer Tamilarasan, directed by Babu Yogeswaran. The song, titled ‘Poruthathu Pothum’, with lyrics by Jayaram, was recorded on Vishu day with a live orchestra comprising nearly 100 musicians.

Producer G Siva told Silverscreen that ‘Poruthathu’ is a revolutionary song apt for today’s times, but also reminiscent of Yesudas’ classic numbers. “You will feel nostalgic if you listen to the song. After all these years, there’s not even a slight change in Yesudas’ voice. We were all pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. We felt that the song needed a strong voice such as Yesudas sir’s. After Raja sir finished composing, he agreed that we should contact him. Yesudas sir was happy with the composition and lyrics, and readily agreed.”

Ilaiyaraaja also made sure that the singer was well taken care of. Ilaiyaraaja and Yesudas have been closely associated for many years, and they last worked together in the Malayalam movie Pazhassi Raja, starring Mammootty and Sarath Kumar.

Tamilarasan stars Vijay Antony, Ramya Nambessan, Kasturi Shankar, Yogi Babu and others. The film went on floors earlier this year, and the team is currently busy shooting in Puducherry. “We will complete the schedule in four to five days; only the songs are left,” G Siva said.

As reported earlier, Vijay Antony plays a cop in this film, after Thimiru Pudichavan. According to the actor, both characters are, however, poles apart. Kasthuri will be seen as a doctor; the other character announcements are yet to be made.

The film has been produced by SNS Movies. RD Rajasekhar is the cinematographer and Anal Arasu is the stunt director. The songs are likely to be out by the end of May and the team is hopeful of a June or July release.
