Director and actor M Sasikumar announced his production house Company Productions’ ninth film on 15 September. He will be collaborating again with music director Darbuka Siva with whom he worked in this year’s Kidaari. The film will be directed by debutant, P Prakash who formerly assisted directors Bala and Sudha Kongara Prasad, and will have Sasikumar acting alongside veteran actors Sangili Murugan and Kovai Sarala.

Darbuka Siva, a former radio show host in Chennai, made his debut in Tamil cinema as an actor in AG Amid’s heist film Rajathandhiram last year. His next film marked his debut as a music composer for M Sasikumar’s Kidaari.

Siva spoke to Silverscreen, and expressed his delight at being well-received as a music director. “I got a very positive response for the Kidaari‘s album. Many said that they liked how I brought in different instruments into the folk music genre in the film,” he said.

His next film as a composer, however, will be different from his first. “In terms of genre, the next film is a light-hearted comedy, a stark contrast from Kidaari. It does have a village backdrop to it, so my music will have folk elements to it, but will incorporate the feel of the film as a whole,” he explained.

Incidentally, Siva worked on indie music before he composed for Kidaari. The music director admitted that he grew up on Tamil film music and had the chance to work with many talented musicians. “I don’t have any reluctance when it comes to the genre, but the people I work with and the script have to inspire my music,” he confessed.

Although he made his debut in cinema as an actor, Siva insists that he doesn’t want to take up all the offers that come his way. “I only want to take up roles that are exciting for me in some way. As of now, I have done an interesting role in Thodari, which will release next week,” he said.
