According to a report in India Today, Nayanthara and Keerthy Suresh play the female leads in the film. It was speculated earlier that Rajinikanth has a dual role, and the two actresses may now be seen starring opposite him. However, no confirmation regarding this has come.

Rajinikanth last played a dual role in 2.0 directed by Shankar. Over the years, he has played multiple such roles in films like Arunachalam (1997), Muthu (1995), Athisaya Piravi (1989)and Rajathi Raja (1989).

Director AR Murugadoss recently denied reports that the title of the new film was Naarkali. He had hinted in an interview that the film might be a fantasy venture. This is Rajinikanth’s 166th film, and is expected to be his last one before he enters politics.

Reports emerged towards the end of last year that Sun Pictures was planning to produce a film by Murugadoss with Rajinikanth in the lead. However, they pulled out because the director’s previous release Sarkar, bankrolled by them, was mired in controversy. Subsequently, Lyca Productions took over.

The cinematography for the film is by Santosh Shivan, who is working with the actor after a gap of 27 years. The duo previously worked on Mani Ratnam’s Thalapathy. Music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, and other details are yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is busy with films and is said to have kept aside his political venture. He recently announced that he will not contest in the upcoming parliamentary elections, in which actor Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam will independently contest all 40 constituencies.
