“Karuthavanellam Galeejam”, the first single track from Mohan Raja’s film Velaikaran, starring Sivakarthikeyan, is a celebration of the working class, says the song’s lyricist Viveka.
Speaking to Silverscreen, Viveka said the song also addresses racist myths about dark-skinned people. The kuthu song, wich was released yesterday, has been composed and sung by Anirudh.
Viveka said, “Director Raja told me that this song shouldn’t be yet another kuthu number. He wanted it to have a profound message that celebrates the working class in this society. Keeping this in mind I wrote this song exclusively for the working class. Though it has a social message, we ensured that it was commercially viable and would appeal to the masses.
“Actual Chennaiites, who toils for the growth of the city are sidelined, and I have tried to throw light on that issue via my lyrics. That’s why I say, ‘Oorukku Sonthakaran Oorukku Veliye Irukkaan‘.”

“Karuthavanellam Galeejam” also addresses the issue of racism. Viveka said, “There is a negative impression in this society about dark skinned people. This is just a myth, and I have addressed this issue through my lyrics. This song is definitely against any kind of racist behaviour.”
Velaikaran, which is said to be inspired from the 1993 English film Falling Down, is scheduled to release on September 27.
However, sources say that there is still much work still left to be completed. The director has reportedly been working round the clock to meet the deadline.
