Karunakaran, Yogi Babu Fight To Be The Next Yama Raja In ‘Dharma Prabhu’

Two of Tamil Cinema’s favourite comic talents will unite for Muthukumaran’s fantasy movie Dharmaprabhu. Yogi Babu and Karunakaran will fight to get the chance to be the next Yama Raja in the film. Karunakaran, we hear, will play Chitraguptan. Yogi Babu’s claim to the throne is that he is the rightful successor to his father, the old Yama Raja.

Sri Vaari Film is the producer of this film that will have Justin Prabhakaran as the music composer and Mahesh Muthuswamy as the cinematographer.

Anirudh Ravichander, who composed the music for Yogi Babu starrer Kolamaavu Kokila, unveiled the first look of the film. The team had teased the audience with a social media campaign asking them to guess the next heir (Adutha Vaarisu Yaar?). In the recently released first look, Yogi Babu can be seen sitting on a resplendent throne. His appearance is designed in a way to mimic the cinematic portrayal of Lord Yama thus far.

Yogi Babu, in conversation with Silverscreen, said that the film is a challenging one, as it deals with Hindu mythology. “There’s also a lot of comedy involved so we are hoping to really capture the audience. Karunakaran and I have really great roles in the film.”

Interestingly, this is probably Yogi Babu’s second feature film that features him in a lead role. Apart from Gurkha, his other films have all had him playing secondary characters. “Yes, it is a huge responsibility. But I think I am really up for the challenge. I am at that time in life where I would really like to branch out. So, there’s that. I want to use this opportunity to supplement my career as a comedian while also experimenting with unusual roles.”

Babu is also very appreciative of the way the Tamil audience has welcomed him thus far. “I really hope they extend a warm welcome to my experimental efforts as well,” he added.

Dharmaprabhu is Muthukumaran’s second as director. His debut film, Kanni Rasi featuring Vimal and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in lead roles, is still unreleased.
