Director Karthick Naren’s next with Arun Vijay has been titled Mafia. The team was planning an official announcement about the film, before which the title was leaked in reports.
Sources close to the film told Silverscreen, “The name has been fixed as Mafia. Work on the first-look poster and title design is currently on and they will be released soon. The shoot for the film will tentatively begin by the third week of June.” Lyca Productions is bankrolling the film. It has been reported that Nivetha Pethuraj plays the female lead, and actor Prasanna is part of the cast. But this is yet to be confirmed.
Reports about the project have been on since November last year. It was initially said that Karthick Naren was in talks with Arvind Swami for the film, but the lead actor’s name was changed to Arun Vijay later. Arun Vijay too confirmed this in April. “Karthick and I are in talks for a movie. I really like the script,” he said, adding that the movie was not Naadaga Medai, which Karthick had announced earlier. Naadaga Medai, said to Karthick’s first comedy, is also under production.

Karthick Naren rose to fame with the 2016 super-hit Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru, and is currently awaiting the release of Naragasooran, starring Arvind Swami, Shriya Saran, Aathmika, Sundeep Kishan and Indrajith Sukumaran. The film was completed and scheduled for release last year, but it faced roadblocks. Karthick and the original producer of the movie, director Gautham Vasudev Menon, had a fallout after which Badri Kasturi came on board as producer.
Arun Vijay is busy with a line of films after the success of Thadam in March. He is currently busy with Boxer, co-starring Rithika Singh. He reportedly has a film with Thadam director Magizh Tirumeni under production, and is also working on Agni Siragugal, Vaa Deal and the multi-lingual film Saaho.
