Karan posted a picture of them on Instagram and said, “Had the pleasure to be the first to see Dear Comrade! What a powerful and intense love story!!! Top notch performances by @thedeverakonda and @rashmika_mandanna!! The film is exceptionally moving and leaves you with such an important and relevant message! (sic)”

He also praised the film’s director, composer and producer and announced that his production house Dharma Movies will back the Hindi remake.

Deverakonda said on Instagram that he was “so proud to have this man, watch, love and be the one to remake our baby Dear Comrade in Hindi,” and that he would love to work with Dharma Movies in the future.

He also clarified in a recent interview to Anupama Chopra of Film Companion that he is not part of the Hindi version. He was in Mumbai to meet Karan Johar and show him the movie. “He has bought the Hindi remake rights to the film, but I won’t be doing it,” he said.

He added that he is interested in acting in Hindi films in the future if they work in Telugu as well and can be made as a bilingual. It is not yet known if Rashmika will star in the Hindi version.

This is Deverakonda’s second film to be remade in Hindi after the recent Kabir Singh, which was thrashed by critics but has become one of the highest grossing Bollywood films of the year.

Speaking at the press meet in Chennai recently, Deverakonda said that they intended for Dear Comrade to travel places. “Our crew members are from across South India, and it’s a story that people anywhere would love to watch.”

The actor plays a student leader in the film, but clarified that it is not a political film. “It’s about a friend and a regular college boy who fights for what he believes in. This is not a political story; it’s a straightforward love story,” he said.

Rashmika plays Lilly, a State-level cricket player and his neighbour. She said, “I was hesitant when I was approached for the role. I’m an athlete in real life but I’ve not played cricket before. I practised for about five months under a trainer, and the result is what you see in the trailer.”

The film also stars other under-19 players, who are part of her team. The actors were in Kochi, Bengaluru and Chennai to promote the film’s music, composed by Justin Prabhakaran. The ‘Dear Comrade’ anthem sung in Telugu by Deverakonda, in Tamil by Vijay Sethupathi and in Malayalam by Dulquer Salmaan is trending online.
